Secret 7 competition

Submission for a brief called secret 7. Had to wait a while before uploading this as it was against competition guidelines to upload anything before any winners were announced. This brief was based on making an album cover based on a choice of seven songs. This submission was for the song one step ahead by Aretha Franklin as I really wanted to play around with 60s colour palettes and look into historical events around the era. This concept was based around huge space developments in 1965 hence the space theme incorporated with The meaning behind Franklin’s song about relationship problems where she was stuck with someone she was unhappy with and conflicted with her feelings for someone else that she knew would be frowned upon if she went to them which is where the imagery for the spaceman reaching for the heart comes from, being able to achieve near impossible things at the time but not quite being satisfied with them self which is where I thought her feelings were coming from with this song. She had a particular talent with the piano which is where the idea of using a waving piano trail as the oxygen lead cane from. Finally to give the dated effect of the era I applied some worn out faded texture which I felt really rounded off this outcome. It’s clear I still have a bit of work to do in terms of perfecting my illustration skills so I am not disappointed for not being shortlisted with this brief, at this point I’m enjoying the process of working on new and interesting briefs while practising my illustrative skills 🧑‍🚀🤲💗🎹🎶
